PEWSEY TENNIS CLUB - SCHOOL LINKS

For several years the Club has offered summer coaching at 5 primary schools in the Pewsey Vale and this has led to many school children taking up tennis on a regular basis.

We are now pleased to announce that the Club has formally joined the Avon Valley School Sports Partnership and will seek with their assistance to expand our Club/School links to all Primary Schools in our catchment area(there are 7) as well as trialing in the Spring, providing coaching(on our own courts initially) for a complete class from Pewsey Vale School – the coaching session will be for 40 minutes duration and arranged when our courts are usually free.

Martin Wright(Head Coach) and Jon Veale(Coach) were both pupils at Pewsey vale School and we are delighted, at long last, to have the opportunity to strengthen links with PVS.

Avon Valley SSP is represented by Colette Priestman with Lyndsey Sutton, Pewsey Vale School’s Co-ordinator and Amanda Cox, Kennet DC Leisure Development Officer supporting this new initiative. Kennet will provide marketing free to our coaches/ participating schools.

The main objectives other than giving children ‘a taster of tennis’ and exercise is to encourage them to join local clubs, help school staff to teach children to play tennis, to break down the ’perceived barriers of expense, not for us attitudes!

Our Chairman, Colin Gratton, who attended the initial discussions, confirmed ‘ that for many years the club has provided good opportunities for primary school children to enjoy tennis and at long last ‘the window at Pewsey Vale School’ appears to be wide open’. The recent accreditation of Tennis Clubmark made Pewsey Tennis Club the ideal and qualified partner.
