Well we nearly have all the winners but still a few results to come in. Can I ask you all to check the “Results” tab and see if your team(s) still have results showing with a yellow background – this means I have been unable to audit these results – probably because I have not received the result sheet – if you are the home team in such a fixture please contact me if you have sent me the result sheet more than 5 days ago.

Depending upon your co-operation I would hope this will be with you sometime during the first week of September but I do need you all to be on the ball to enable this to happen.

Malcolm

REMINDER

The Winter League application forms will be out soon so now is the time to speak to your members to determine how many teams you will be entering this year.

I am working very hard at the moment to try and keep everything as up to date as possible for everyone as I know many of you are watching the results with interest to see if your promotion or relegation hopes or fears are going to “happen”.

Those of you inputting results on line can help matters a little – basically I audit the actual score on the “Results” tab on a same day received basis, where possible, so if you have sent in a result and it has not both changed colour and become locked within say 48 hours, then it suggests that I have not had the result sheet, so it might be worth your while checking out if it has indeed been posted or emailed.

Congratulations this week to David Lloyd Ladies A team who have made certain of the Division 2 Championship and can look forward to mixing with the “big girls” next season.

Two other David Lloyd teams, Men’s B & C have clinched promotion from divisions 7 & 8 respectively and Next Generation A have also made a promotion slot in the Men’s Division 8 while Minety B Mixed team have done the same in Division 6 so well done to all players concerned from those 4 teams. Back to that Men’s Division 8 battle between Next Generation A and David Lloyd B – both teams have the same points with one match left and it’s against each other so winner takes all in that one!!

The most confusing match of the season must surely have been last week’s Ladies Division 5 match between Nationwide B and Wanborough C – Nationwide fielded 4 ladies ALL called Liz and Wanborough had TWO called Jane! What a nightmare that must have been!

Full details below of latest additions to the promotion/relegation stakes:

Ladies Div 2 Champions: David Lloyd A
Ladies Div 4 Relegated: Swindon C
Mixed Div 6: Promoted: Minety B
Men’s Div 5: Relegated: Highworth B
Men’s Div 7: Promoted: David Lloyd B ; Relegated: Burbage
Men’s Div 8: Promoted: David Lloyd C & Next Generation A

Well the climax of the season is fast approaching and we have a few really tight battles still to be resolved: Ladies Division 3 see 4 teams covered by just one point in the battle to avoid relegation and the contest in Division 4 to see which are the two teams to replace them is even tighter with 5 teams separated by just one point.

In the Mixed league the only resolved issue is that Minety B will finish in the top 2 in Division 6 with all other promotion and relegation places still in the balance.

The Men’s league has fallen behind the other leagues because of the 2 Bank Holidays and also some pretty mean Monday weather this year but in Division 5 Highworth B are relegated while in Division 7 David Lloyd B are promoted and Burbage relegated. In Division 8 both David Lloyd C and Next Generation A are promoted but they have only lost one match each so the battle to decide the Champions could well be decided on sets!

Decided so far:
Ladies Div 2 Champions: David Lloyd A
Ladies Div 4 Relegated: Swindon C
Mixed Div 6: Promoted: Minety B
Men’s Div 5: Relegated: Highworth B
Men’s Div 7: Promoted: David Lloyd B ; Relegated: Burbage
Men’s Div 8: Promoted: David Lloyd C & Next Generation A

9th July 2009

Last years Men’s Division 1 champions, Pewsey A, have opened up a 6 point gap at the top of the table and look odds on favourites to retain their title but they dropped their first point of the season this week to Purton A who are the nearest challengers. In Division 7 David Lloyd B are the only Men’s team with a 100% record having conceded only 11 sets in 9 winning matches. In division 8 Next Generation A and David Lloyd C can get the champagne out as with 18 points each they are both already guaranteed promotion so congratulations to them both!

In the Ladies Division 1 title race it’s a tight run race between Ramsbury A, Purton A and Swindon A, while in Division 2 David Lloyd A have opened up a 7 point lead over Purton B in second place and are looking good to be in Division 1 next year having won 10 out of 10 matches, the only Ladies team with a 100% record! In Division 3 Pewsey C and Wootton Bassett A both need just one more victory to secure promotion whilst in Division 4 Purton C have a 2 point lead but find themselves being chased by 3 teams all just those 2 points adrift.

In the Mixed Division 1 it’s the same 3 teams leading the way as in the Ladies i.e. Ramsbury A, Swindon A and Purton A with only one point between them. There are 3 mixed teams still maintaining 100% records, David Lloyd A in Division 4 and Next Generation and Great Bedwyn in Division 5 but David Lloyd A have only conceded 2 sets in 9 matches – an amazing statistic!

We now enter the crucial part of the season where all the promotion and relegation issues get sorted out and where you need a bit of luck, avoiding injuries and hoping your key players haven’t booked a holiday to coincide with your “deciding fixture”.

Good luck to you all (unless you are playing one of my teams!) and I hope you get what you deserve.

Regards,

Malcolm Gayfer

26th June 2009

Latest update attached – I’m now off on another 10 day break but beware my post is being opened and checked and I will be monitoring my emails and auditing results from my retreat so still no excuses for late results!!!

The next update will be around 7/8th July.

Personally my teams have no matches next week which is why I can go and get some sun.

Malcolm

PS Sent tables and a report to the Adver for publication about 3 weeks ago but by the time they got them in the paper they were out of date.
Your views please on if I should bother in future bearing in mind you have instant info these days .

15th June 2009

Purton A Ladies take over the top of Division 1 after an 8 – 0 drubbing of Highworth while previous leaders Ramsbury A slipped up with a draw against Ashton Keynes A. David Lloyd A go 6 points clear in the Ladies Division 2 and in Division5 Next Generation have opened up a 4 point lead.

Holders Pewsey A continue their fine start in defence of their title but Purton A are hot on their heels as the Men’s Division 1 at last gets a few matches played after the Bank Holidays and the postponements for rain. In Division 4 newcomers Chippenham have still to drop a set but 4 clubs share equal second place with only 3 sets splitting them up. In Division 7 David Lloyd B have only dropped 3 sets in 4 matches but still trail Ramsbury C by 2 points albeit with 2 games in hand.

In the 6 mixed divisions, 4 of the divisions have a t least 2 teams at the top with equal points and in the other 2 divisions only 2 points split the top two so it looks as though all the mixed leagues are extremely competitive this year.

So we have reached the halfway stage already and from 20 divisions only 18 teams have played all 7 matches and 16 of these have been in the Ladies leagues so after the last couple of years when all the rain seemed to fall every Tuesday it appears the Ladies are getting all the good weather for a change.

Comments from Malcolm Gayfer:
Congratulations to Purton A on finishing top of Division 1 particularly after struggling to put teams out all season and ending up using a total of 12 different players. Ramsbury A were a close 2nd and Pewsey A only 2 points adrift in 3rd.

Ramsbury had an excellent Winter with the B team topping Division 2 and the C runners up to David Lloyd A in Division 3. David Lloyd A conceded only 17 sets in 14 games and not surprisingly won all 14 matches so well done to them.

Back to Ramsbury B who squeezed Pewsey B into 2nd place in Division 2 by the small margin of just 4 sets.

In Division 4 only Highworth managed to beat Next Generation A who won their 11 other matches to take the title but Highworth missed out as Swindon D grabbed 2nd place by 2 points.

Both Wootton Bassett C and Aldbourne B won 8 matches in division 5 but the former came out top by 2 points as they only lost 2 matches compared to 4. This was a hotly contested Division with only 3 points separating 3rd to 6th places and 6th placed Calne winning only 2 sets less than 2nd placed Aldbourne B!

Congratulations to everyone who took part and in particular to those responsible for re-organising all the postponed matches which ran into record figures, many clubs having 6 or 7 matches called off for the atrocious weather and some matches only finally being played at the 3rd or 4th attempt. In the end all matches bar 9 that were conceded did get played which was an amazing effort by you all and thank you for keeping me so well informed that I had hardly any chasing to do at the end of the season.

Also well done on getting the match sheets in – only 6 discretions which was very good.

Best wishes,

Malcolm
