News and NoticesNovember 2011Amanda Foxton receives LTA's Meritorious Service Award Amanda's outstanding contribution to the club and to Wiltshire tennis over the last 30 years has been recognised by this accolade. The Committee is sure that all who have benefitted from her endless efforts will agree it is richly deserved. Here she is receiving the award from Wilts LTA President Sir Geoffrey Owen at the Wilts LTA AGM on 30th November: To put it in context, it should be understood that these awards are very rare (ie half a dozen a year across the country). To see the full citation see here. Those who watched would agree the standard was very high, and sadly Pewsey missed out on any major wins - but Jess Archer gave us something to shout about by winning the Plate competition for the Girls 16 and under. Local successes included Will Bissett from Devizes and Mikey Puttick from Aldbourne, both now attending Bath Academy. The event was given extra prestige by the attendance on finals day by
some Top Brass from the LTA: For Pewsey, Amanda Foxton ran things with her usual aplomb, and had organised
an army of Volunteers to man the Shop and provide catering. Amanda

Tennis Club, Altrincham, Cheshire The Bob Harris Awards The Club decided to honour the memory of its former Club president, Bob
Harris, by creating a series of coaching awards to support talented junior
players as well as funding group coaching for Mini Red team. Chairman,
Colin Gratton said that Pewsey Tennis Club had a long tradition of encouraging
its junior players to improve, compete and enjoy their tennis and that
Bob Harris was a great supporter of the juniors. These awards are a great
tribute to his loyal service to the Club and I know he would be very pleased
that the Awards have been set-up and awarded annually. Left: Bob's successor as Club President, Amanda Foxton presented

in aid of The men's competition attracted a good field of (mostly very late) entries, and it was good to see a mixture of Senior and Junior players. Continuing an unbeaten run of three years the winners were Martin Wright and Jon Gregory, seen here receiving the cup from Jennifer Brisker, the local Save the Children representative and a keen PTC member:
The ladies' competition was rather less well attended -
just two pairs competed, and they completed their event (played over 3
sets) before Jennifer arrived! Luckily Judith Deck was there to snap the
finalists: The winners were Patti Mann and Elaine King (same as last year), but big thanks are due to Sally Brown and Marijke Craig for at least making them play for it! We must raise the profile of this event next year, and perhaps give more thought to the date chosen. 5th September - Parent and Child Tournament In the 16U category Jeremy Barker (13) and his father Charlie
won the cup after a final against Tom and Rob Lindeman. In the younger group, 10U, Callum Macgregor and dad Ninian

August 2010The Juniors were very busy in August with a week of Holiday Coaching, an Activities Week organised by Martin Wright and the Club Junior Tournaments run by Amanda Foxton. All went very well and the club raised some welcome funds. At the end of the month the Club hosted the Wiltshire Junior Closed Tournament, which saw the best young players in the county battling it out on our courts. Anyone watching was treated to some very high class play in the final stages. July 201025th July: A 'Social' with Tennis A good number turned out for a delicious summer barbecue courtesy of Matthew Popham and a 'roll-up' tournament organised beautifully as ever by Amanda Foxton. Opening day Roll-Up Tournament ...and even more people (another 50) arrived to attend the draw for the club's allocation of 24 pairs of Wimbledon tickets. There is to be no inquiry into how it came about that the Club Chairman, also MC at the ballot, happened to be the first name drawn! March 2010At the March committee meeting, Bev Birkett was welcomed as the Club's new Treasurer. She will take over from Rob Lindeman at the end of April. At the same meeting Neville Burrell was appointed Vice Chairman. The idea of a storage box with a lock for keeping balls in was put 'on hold' because the situation seemed to have improved, with fewer balls mysteriously disappearing. Perhaps the very airing of the subject at the AGM had done some good? February 201024th February was the AGM. Highlights were:
